McCully / Moiliili

For born-and-raised Honolulu residents, this diverse mix of residential buildings, single-family homes, and mixed-use buildings are a central part of Honolulu City life. The McCully and Moiliili area is where you can find mom-and-pop businesses like florists, crack seed stores, shave-ice stands, and an array of delicious eateries.

Sitting just north of Ala Moana and Waikiki, and south of the University of Hawaii, McCully and Moiliili’s location couldn’t be any more central. Historically, this flatland was once a fertile agricultural area where taro, bananas, and other fruits and vegetables thrived. By the early 20th century, it started becoming the urban neighborhood we know today.

While quaint houses that were home to generations of then newcomers to Honolulu still make up the fabric of this neighborhood, they are giving way to mid- and high-rise developments that are transforming the cityscape. High-rise condominiums punctuate the area, taking advantage of its amazing location, commanding Diamond Head/ocean views, and convenience—the University of Hawaii, the beaches of Waikiki, and Downtown Honolulu are all minutes away.

Young entrepreneurs are also breathing new life into McCully and Moiliili’s existing midcentury storefronts, creating hip blocks throughout the area. Cool boutiques and ethnically diverse restaurants now dot the area, making it an excellent place to explore.

The long established Moiliili-McCully area is a happening place, steps away from numerous dining establishments, the collegiate lifestyle of UH, and abundant outdoor activities. A morning dip at the Ala Moana Beach Park or Waikiki Beach before heading to work is a dream that can be part of your daily routine.  It is a great place to have a bustling live-work-play lifestyle.
