Kapolei / Makakilo

As Oahu's second city, the neighborhood of Kapolei has quickly become a thriving community. Located on the west side of the island, this burgeoning neighborhood’s rapid development in the last few decades is an exciting look into the future of Oahu.

As a series of master planned communities, the neighborhood of Kapolei is characterized by expansive avenues lined with newer residential subdivisions. Kapolei boast larger homes at more affordable rates, compared to the higher-priced and more crowded neighborhoods elsewhere on the island. Bike paths, spacious sidewalks, and lush public parks provide a stark contrast to the cramped streets and gangly urban sprawl of Honolulu. Here, residents can enjoy an idyllic neighborhood, defined by blue-skies and sunny Hawaii days.

As its status as Oahu’s second city, Kapolei offers many amenities from leisure to recreation. New developments allow residents to enjoy many of the luxuries of modern-day living, without the need to go beyond the neighborhood limits. Everything you might need can be found right here in Kapolei. The newly built Ka Makana Alii offers a multitude of shopping opportunities, boasting access to well-known stores like Macy’s, Old Navy and H&M as well as more luxury boutiques. It’s also home to a new, state-of-the-art movie theater, complete with reclining leather seats. And it offers a wide array of dining options, including only one of two Cheesecake Factories in Hawaii, the other being in the busy streets of Waikīkī.

Just above Kapolei is Makakilo. Makakilo is a diverse community with one bedroom townhouses to high end single family homes. At the top of the ridge, you can enjoy beautiful views of Pearl Harbor all the way to downtown and Diamond Head. It’s close proximity to Kapolei makes Makakilo a convenient place to live.

Nearby is the island’s only water park, Wet n’ Wild, a perfect get-away for families and adventurous adults. And just a quick drive away are the world-class resorts of Koolina and Aulani, the Disney Hawaii Resort. Enjoy access to Koolina’s many lagoons, where secluded, white sand beaches give way to sparkling, turquoise waters. Or enjoy a night at Paradise Cove, where you can experience a real-life luau, complete with vibrant hula dancers and a classic imu. (Imu [in Hawaiian] - an underground oven in which meat and vegetables are cooked, traditionally by means of heated stones covered with vegetation)

The H-1 freeway provides access to Honolulu. And the new Honolulu Rail Transit System will offer another, more convenient way to get downtown. Kapolei and Makakilo enjoys access to prestigious public schools and the University of Hawaii’s West Oahu campus. With three future developments in the works, it’s master planned community is continuing to grow. Be at the forefront of the new Oahu and watch this community flourish.
